Session Description

This interview and discussion session, from the BC Public Library Partners, will explore the future by design through the intent and experience of project management and strategic planning at Whistler Public Library and North Vancouver City Library.

Expect to hear about:
• Being intentional in all aspects of library work and governance
• Building teams and collaborative leadership
• Working with vision, values, and evidence
• Engaging community, trustees, and staff
• Developing community partnerships
• Creating a culture of trust, leadership and innovation

Biography
Elizabeth Tracy, Whistler Public Library
Biography

Elizabeth Tracy has been the library director at the Whistler Public Library since June of 2012. Prior to her time in Whistler she spent eight years at the Wilkinson Public Library in Telluride, Colorado. Her experience in libraries has taken her from special to public libraries. Living in places where she can play outside and give back to her community is the ultimate recipe for happiness. Whether in work or play she is a firm believer in the power of doing something scary every day.

Stephen Smith, North Vancouver City Library
Biography

Born in China and raised in Africa, Stephen Smith was an educator for 45 years, teaching at all levels (elementary to post-secondary) in Zambia, Zimbabwe, Alberta, and B.C., and serving as a school principal for 16 years and a school district administrator for 10 years. Since retiring, Stephen has enjoyed travelling, golfing, visiting his family (four daughters and eight grandchildren) and volunteering in his community. He is now in his seventh year on the North Vancouver City Library Board, and in his third as Board Chair.

Bevin Heath Ansley, Whistler Public Library
Biography

Bevin Heath Ansley has been the Chair of Whistler Public Library Board of Trustees since January 2018 and on the Board since 2016. Some of her prior volunteer work includes President of a Rotary Club, work as a team lead at the Whistler Sliding Centre during the 2010 Olympics, serving on the RMOW Learning and Education Task Force, and working with a Whistler Chamber of Commerce team to create a Human Resources Toolkit for small businesses. {I love working in my community!}
In her career, Bevin managed training, education and human resources in major corporations. She also worked in post-secondary education institutions including Kwantlen Polytechnic University where she held positions such as Director for the Center for Cooperative Education and Career Services, and Associate Dean, Learner Resources which included 4 libraries. As a private Human Resources Consultant her work primarily involved supervisory training and establishing performance management systems for large and small organizations.
Bevin has a Master of Arts in Leadership and Training from Royal Roads University and a BA in English and Communications from SFU. She resides in Whistler, BC.
