Accessing Pathways to Higher Education
Mary Baldwin University’s Adult Degree Program has a distinguished history of providing access to adult learners for quality undergraduate and graduate degrees. The Adult Degree Program is the oldest in the Commonwealth of Virginia. This roundtable discussion will commence with sharing current practices and models including the following; regional centers, individualizing advising, online orientations, online classes, and evening - weekend hybrid classes. Partnerships with the community college system, veteran organizations, and community/local stakeholders serve as vital elements of providing access. As higher education professionals, we serve students with diverse needs and expectations. Helping students gain access to programs which facilitate the achievement of their goals is vital to student success and institutional growth. The roundtable will progress to a time of informal sharing of practices among the participants and discussion of successes and areas of challenge.

Brief Bio
Sharon Barnes has been with the College since 1997. In addition to serving as a regional director and advising students, Ms. Barnes teaches Introduction to Listening, Women in Music, and Fundamentals of Music. She is an active member of ACHE. Ms. Barnes often appears at conferences as a presenter on the topics of advising adult learners and online teaching. She holds a BA and MALS from Hollins University.

Ms. Kari Frenz, M.S., Mary Baldwin College
Brief Bio
Kari Frenz has been with the College since July 2011. She advises undergraduate ADP students and Post Baccalaureate students seeking teacher licensure. She also teaches MBC 101, College Algebra, and Precalculus with Trigonometry. She is an active member of ACHE. Ms. Frenz has an AA&S in Science from Lord Fairfax Community College, a BA in Mathematics from Mary Baldwin College, and a MS in Education and Student Affairs Administration from Radford University.
