Salon Conversation: Beyond Foundations: Building a Bigger Tent for Effective Philanthropy

Tuesday, May 3, 2016 at 8:00 AM–9:00 AM CDT
Minnehaha (Second Floor)
Session Description

Want to meet other grantmakers who are focused on the same issues, in the same role, or wrestling with similar challenges? The Conversation Salon provides a space and time for participants to gather and talk informally about commonalities, specific burning questions or whatever's on your mind.

CONVERSATION TOPIC: Only about a quarter of nonprofit contributed revenues come from foundations, and most of these foundations are small, with no or few staff. Meanwhile, the array of philanthropic vehicles besides private foundations — including Donor Advised Funds, major donors who make large gifts directly, and emerging structures like the Chan-Zuckerberg LLC — is increasing and becoming a more important force in the philanthropic ecosystem. This discussion will focus on the growing variety of philanthropic vehicles and how they could collaborate better to achieve greater impact and lead change in philanthropy.

CONVERSATION HOST: Paul Connolly, Bessemer Trust
