Session Abstract

The University of Miami launched its new Esploro instance on May 18’th, to showcase the scholarship artifacts and activities by the UM community. One of the initial challenges that the team encountered was finding a robust method of depositing assets that are not associated with a research profile. These assets mainly include Electonic thesis and dissertations by UM graduate students. The team investigated the options that were recommended by ExLibris, but they were not compatible with the requirements of the organization. In order to fulfill all the requirements, the team started investigations on a custom solution. Based on the discussions the University of Miami Libraries developed a web application using the Python framework, Flask. This enabled us to develop a custom workflow tailored to each demographic and deposit the asset in the Esploro with the use of the SWORD protocol. The presentation will focus on the requirements, the development process, and the final product.
